“El arte de la traducción”, by Alejandro Cioranescu

Alejandro Cioranescu's work (1911-1999) as a researcher in Comparative Literature was developed in Spain since the fifties. Cioranescu is not only author of the first modern manual of Comparative Literature written in Spanish but his interest in this discipline issues (exchanges, contacts, translation) remained present over more than four decades in his Spanish bibliography. This work recovers one of the Romanian philologist article that may well be seen as his ideal for literary translation.
Old concepts, new ideas: approaches to translation shifts

This paper traces the development of the translation shift concept from its origins in the linguistics-oriented era of translation studies to its current revival in computer-based approaches: after a presentation of the traditional approaches by John C. Catford, Jean-Paul Vinay and Jean Darbelnet, Eugene A. Nida, and Kitty van Leuven-Zwart, several recent studies that have integrated the concept of translation shifts are introduced and discussed. Niniejszy artykuł prezentuje rozważania wstępne autorki związane z planowaną rozprawą habilitacyjną, której celem jest zrekonstruowanie historii polskiego przekładu powieści Der Zauberberg (Czarodziejska góra) Thomasa Manna oraz zanalizowanie jego oddziaływania na polską recepcję utworu. Ze względu na fakt, że obie części powieści zostały przełożone przez różnych tłumaczy, a tom drugi doczekał się dwóch wersji przekładu (z roku 1930 oraz z 1953), powstaje przy tym fundamentalne pytanie o spójność wyłaniającego się z przekładu światopoglądu dzieła. Historians have demonstrated that Auguste Comte‟s philosophy became an eclectic positivism after its introduction to Latin America. The factors that help explain this eclecticism include positivism's connections with the writings of Herbert Spencer, Charles Darwin, and John Stuart Mill; the simultaneous circulation of print materials in their original language as well as their translations; and the emergence of an international publishing market in the late 19th century. La ausencia de tratados completos sobre silvicultura en la España del siglo xviii se suplió en parte con traducciones. El botánico Casimiro Gómez Ortega publicó en 1773 la traducción de la obra del agrónomo Duhamel du Monceau Des semis et plantations des bois (1760). En este artículo, estudiaremos 19 términos propios de esta disciplina desde un punto de vista lexicográfico comparando las definiciones en distintos diccionarios y en el glosario incluido en la obra origen y en la traducción. En els darrers vint-i-cinc anys l’interès pels estudis de traducció i la relació amb el gènere ha propiciat una recerca abundant i diversa. Aquest article mira d’oferir una visió panoràmica sobre la intersecció de la traducció i els estudis de gènere en el context de la llengua catalana, un punt de partida per a recerques futures. D’una banda, donem notícia dels principals treballs, panoràmics i específics, que se centren en la recuperació de traductores catalanes i els seus escrits. De l’altra, repassem les teories que han plantejat la intersecció gènere i traducció en català.
